BAXTER’S VINEYARDS’ 13TH ANNUAL WINE MAKERS’ CONTEST & BAXTER FAMILY REUNION CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF WINE MAKING IN NAUVOO Baxter’s Vineyards hosted their 13th Annual Amateur Oenology Contest along with a Baxter Family Reunion on June 30, 2007. Contestants brought their homemade vintages to Baxter’s Vineyards/Winery to be judged by our panel of six amateur judges. We had twenty-nine winemakers enter seventy-two wines. There were also approximately 35 Baxter family members in attendance. Baxter family members started the day off by burying a barrel with a bottle of our newest wine release, Golden Hills Classic Norton wine inside. The family members then held a story-telling session and took family pictures. A booklet with Baxter family history, memories and recipes was available for all at the winery. Wine masters and lovers of wine enjoyed the day sampling the homemade vintages as well as trading ideas and techniques of the fine art of home wine making. Moses and Carol of Carol’s Pies provided a tasty cookout of blue cheese burgers and grilled turkey breasts with all of the trimmings. There was also apple, coconut crème, and crème cheese rhubarb pie for dessert. After a successful afternoon the winners for the 5 wine categories were announced. Each home wine maker received a certificate of participation. The winners received a ribbon along with the certificate of participation. The Best of Show will receive 10 gallons of grape juice and a Baxter’s Vineyards t- shirt. The winners are as follows: Class I - Red Grape 1st Place: Jerald Boyer, Ft.
