12th Annual Oenology Contest
Baxter's Vineyards hosted their 12th Annual Amateur Oenology Contest on June 24, 2006. Contestants brought their homemade vintages to Baxter's Vineyards/Winery to be judged by our panel of eight amateur judges. We had twenty-three wine makers and 67 wines entered.
Wine masters and lovers of wine enjoyed the day sampling the homemade vintages as well as trading ideas and techniques of the fine art of home wine making. Carol of Carol's Pies provided a tasty cookout of blue cheese burgers and grilled turkey breast with all the trimmings. There was also apple, coconut creme, and creme cheese rhubarb pie for dessert.
After a successful afternoon the winners for the 4 wine categories were announced. The winners were as follows:

CLASS V OTHER WINES 1st - Ardis J. Bryant, Springfield, IL - Sasaphras 2nd - Julie Sonneborn, Warsaw, IL - Dandelion 3rd - Ardis J. Bryant, Springfield, IL - Tomato
Each home wine maker received a certificate of participation. The winners received a ribbon along with the certificate of participation. The Best of Show will receive 10 gallons of grape juice and a Baxter's Vineyards T- shirt.
The results of our 3rd Annual Grape Stomp are:
Age 21 and over: Juanita Kirby, Burlington, IA Stomped 7 cups of juice
Age 12 and under: Amy Pribyl, Keokuk, IA Stomped 6 1/2 cups of juice
The winners of the Grape Stomp received a Grape Stomp T-Shirt and bottle of grape juice or wine.
